Applying wallpaper glue

Plywood is a gelatin sealant that prevents the wall from absorbing water from the wallpaper glue. It can be replaced with an aqueous solution of the glue.

Such a procedure is not always necessary, nevertheless, it gives confidence, that the wallpaper will stick well to the substrate. It also does, that the wall becomes slippery, making it easier for you to move the stripes of wallpaper and fit them together.

There are several types of plywood, although recently it has been successfully replaced by an aqueous solution of the glue itself. Dissolve the amount of glue specified on the packaging in water and apply the solution to the wall with a large brush. After a few minutes, the surface is dry again and you can start wallpapering.

Use sizing even then, when you use adhesive wallpapers. If you want to wallpaper a freshly plastered wall, or a new plaster covering, you need to prime it with oil paint or shellac, and then apply the sizing. Before priming, however, you need to make sure, that the plaster is dry.
