Paint performance

Paint performance

The capacity of the paint depends on its type, on the porosity of the substrate and the thickness of the applied layers. Oil paints are enough for a smaller surface than the emulsion, but – On the other hand – they are applied much thicker, therefore they do not require applying as many layers. Most varnishes cover a larger surface area than the paint, on the other hand, primers are much less efficient. Plastered and porous surfaces absorb larger amounts of liquid, so it is sometimes better to dilute the paint for the first painting and give up the last covering layer.

The number of layers depends on the type of paint, on its color and surface properties. An additional layer turns out to be necessary, for example, when painting a dark paint with a lighter one. On raw wood, first apply a coat of primer and primer, followed by one or two coats of opaque paint.

If you put paint on a previously painted surface, sometimes it is good to paint over it with one or two coats of undercoat. The dark paint sometimes stops showing through the emulsion only after the third layer has been applied. Gloss finish emulsions may also require an additional cover coat. In the table you will find detailed information on the performance of individual paints.

WHAT YOU NEED TO REMEMBER
• Przed przystąpieniem do pracy upewnij się, that you have enough paint.
• Najpierw zagruntuj sufit, then the walls, and finally wooden and metal surfaces. Każdą kolejną warstwę nakładaj w tej samej kolejności.
• Wypróbuj farbę na małym skrawku ściany lub sufitu, before you buy all the quantity you need. Manufacturers often offer such small samples.
• Używaj podkładu zalecanego przez producenta dla wybranej przez siebie barwy warstwy kryjącej.
• Przed rozpoczęciem malowania wypełnij wszystkie szczeliny i oczyść powierzchnię z pyłu.

CALCULATION OF APPROXIMATE WORKING TIME
Renovating your home will take you more time than you have planned. But you still have to remember, that both your experience and skills, as well as careful workmanship, the speed of performing activities and the number of hours worked each day (including meal breaks) they will ultimately affect the total duration of the renovation. Try to spend three uninterrupted work at a time, four hours and – if possible – avoid changing from daylight to electric. remember, that the extra layers of paint will take correspondingly more time, also set aside some time cleaning brushes and tools at the end of each paint job. Adding up the number of hours needed to paint a given room, add to them the time of drying the paint between applying one layer and the other. Roughly speaking, the emulsion dries for about four hours, oil paints should dry overnight. You also need to consider the time it takes to bring paint from the store and assemble your equipment. It often takes up to half a day, especially when you need to go to a distant warehouse. Shopping itself can also be time-consuming. You have to take this into account when planning more than just painting, but also papering, laying glaze, hanging shelves or laying floors.
