Ceramic and concrete blocks are used to make the walls. Ceramic blocks can have vertically or horizontally drilled holes, while the concrete blocks are hollow mostly vertically. The dimensions of the blocks, their shape and hole pattern vary from country to country. In the picture 6.26 shows a wall made of G-type ceramic hollow bricks produced in France. In Poland, ceramic blocks of the "SZ" type are used, "U", „UNI”, „MAX”, K065W "and others.

In recent years, POROTHERM ceramic blocks have been widely used in the construction industry. They can be used to make walls in buildings of various purposes and heights up to 6 storeys.

There are several varieties of this brick with different dimensions. The figure below shows the method of connecting the external wall with the internal one with ties in layers or with the use of galvanized steel connectors.
