Painting furniture

When preparing furniture for painting, take particular care to remove any dirt and peeling paint. This is important, that they are everyday objects and even the smallest defect will be noticed immediately. Several layers of nitrocellulose paint can be sprayed on smaller pieces of furniture, although the resulting surface is quite brittle and may crack. Between applying one layer to the other, the piece of furniture should be polished and any defects filled with nitrocellulose putty.

A variety of decorative techniques described on this and on the previous pages can be successfully used in the renovation of both furniture, and walls. Each item – from the picture frame to the wardrobe – can be decorated using sponge technique, rag, pulling a brush or stippling, be more sophisticated methods, such as the imitation of maple grains shown in the picture.

Imitation of maple rings

1 Tint the base paint with yellow ocher, and the exterior paint is natural and burnt umber. You can imitate the jars by moving a dry brush over wet paint. By squeezing your knuckles into wet paint, you get an "eye."”.

2 Wait 15 minutes (if you use oil paint). Then draw the drawing of the jars with a smoked siena colored pencil or a thin brush. You need to finish drawing before the paint dries. Do your best, so that the lines fall around the "meshes”.

The furniture renovated in this way can be an interesting and cheaply achieved contrast with the simplicity of the walls and equipment.

One of the simplest painting effects of this type is stomping. To obtain it, a dense brush and a fairly diluted paint solution are enough. You will also need a brush or a piece of wood.

Hit the paintbrush with a paintbrush, holding them above the surface, you want to paint. Thanks to this, a rain of small paint droplets will fall on it. If you want an even softer pattern, dip a round tinsel or art brush in a thin solution of paint and snap it with the index finger of the other hand.

Stomping

1 Thanks to the tepowamiu, we will achieve a delicate and decorative pattern. Paint the surface in a color other than paint, which you will use for stippling. Soak the brush with a little paint.
2 Rub off any excess with a rag, to avoid the formation of clumps of paint. Cover the surface in batches, taking care, so that there are no empty spaces between them. The paint must not be sticky.

OPTICAL ILLUSION
The possibilities of this method are endless. Thanks to it, you can create a three-dimensional impression on a flat surface, correct poorly balanced proportions. You can create the illusion of a bay window, entablature, material, to paint a landscape or a pet.
The simplest use of trompe l oeil is to paint panels on the smooth surface of the door. First, paint them with white oil paint. Then mix the natural umber in the white emulsion with a silky finish, obtaining a light greenish-gray color and paint the rectangular contours of the panels, after sticking them with masking tape. To deepen the impression, add a dark line to both sides of the rectangles.
