Interior doors
We remove so many elements from the door, as much as possible, because it is very difficult to paint around the door handles, fittings or hooks. Put a foil under the door, to protect the floor from splashes. We select tools for painting, following the door surface.
For the flat planes of the door we use a width brush 7,5 cm, and small brushes (3 cm i 2 cm) for semi-circular or concave elements.
The last part is painted in front of the hinges (to have something to hold the door for).
Smooth doors
In our imagination, we divide the door into smaller parts (tooth. the illustration above) and we try to paint quickly, to avoid underpaintings or visible joints.
1 We start from the top left corner (top right, if we're left-handed), covering about half the width (1). First, we paint with vertical brush strokes, and then lightly drag the brush horizontally across the entire surface.
2 We paint the remaining parts (2-6) in the same way. It is important to, to paint all parts the same way – the surface should be even and smooth.
3 For finishing door edges (7) we use a small brush. Finally, we paint the doorframe.
Practical advice
• Applying a little petroleum jelly to the hinges and all other metal elements of the door will effectively protect them against contamination with paint.
• The painted surface should be inspected immediately, to check, whether there are no streaks, to have time to spread them with a brush.
Panel doors
The order of painting panel doors is. more complicated (tooth. the illustration below). We will need two or three brushes of different sizes.
1 First, we mail the slats around the rectangular panels (1), and then the panels themselves (2). We start with the upper panels and paint from top to bottom with vertical brush strokes. In the same way, we cover the panels with paint.. Finish the surfaces with light horizontal brush strokes
2 We paint the vertical stile that separates the panels (3). Then we paint the horizontal stiles, starting with the upper ones and ending with the lower ones (4).
3 We paint the outer stiles and edges (5).
4 Finally, we paint the doorframe (6).
